How to Make a Weaving

I've made a lot of these weavings lately, they're pretty addicting! Here are the steps to make one.
PC: my mom

Supplies:

  • jute twine
  • clipboard
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • yarn (different colors)
  • wooden dowel or stick

Step 1: Create the Loom

  1. Wrap the jute twine around the clipboard leaving 8 inches at the end.
  2. Pull both ends tight and tie them in a double knot on the back of the board and trim the remaining twine.

Step 2: Tassels
  1. For each tassel, cut three pieces of yarn that are 12 inches long. Make a bundle.
  2. Slide the yarn under the twine so it's centered in the space between the two pieces of twine. Pull the yarn up through the threads to form a loop.
  3. Pull the ends of the yarn through the loop and pull gently to tighten. Repeat steps 1-3 to make more tassels for every 2 pieces of twine.
Step 3: Weave
  1. Cut a piece of thread, at least a few feet long. Then go over the first twine and under the second.
  2. Repeat the under/over pattern until you reach the other side. Pull the yarn until there is a 4-inch tail left on the end.
  3. Use your fingers to gently push down the yarn. Repeat this every time you weave a new row.
  4. Repeat steps 1-4 with different colors and textures of yarn. When you're finished, turn the clipboard over and cut all the twine across the middle.
Step 4: Finish it up
  1. Thread the cut ends of the yarn through the weaving on the back.
  2. Tie the top pairs of jute cord threads in double knots.
  3. Tie the bottom pairs of jute cord threads in double knots and trim excess.
Step 5: Display
  1. Use a wooden dowel or stick and tie the pairs of jute cord around it in double knots.
  2. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the others.
  3. Cut a piece of twine or rope that's about 12 inches long and double knot it to each end of the dowel or stick. Trim excess.
